My Grandmother's Prayers

December 21, 2008

in General

Yesterday was the anniversary of my uncle’s death. My grandmother cooked (again) an awesome amount of food (in the Chinese tradition, we offer food to our deceased). All in the wish to take care of her eldest son, even after death.

It left a dull ache in my heart.

That is great to hear, about feeding the spirits. It is a Native tradition too, with my tribe. After such times as funerals, memorial dinners, ceremonial times, etc. It is usually the one who says the prayer for the meal, who takes it out. Good to know others do it too.
